  1. What’s New in NetPresenz 4.1?

  3. Improved Robustness
  4.  
  5. This version is primarily a bug fix release.  We have stress tested the server very hard and it should be much more reliable under high load conditions.  In a 100 hour period of hammering on an LC630 (68040 running System 7.5.5 and Open Transport 1.1.1) it handled on average per hour over 1000 FTP connections, over 1200 HTTP connections, over and over 370 Megabytes of transferred data.  It was running with the default memory partition and refused an average of 68 connections per hour because of memory restrictions.

  7. Particular bug fixes include problems with PASV mode, problems downloading some MacBinary files, -32 and -302 errors, problems with CGIs and parameters containing %XX encoded data.

  11. Also in this version we have rounded out the CGI support, adding support for:

  13. • CGI authentication.
  14. • the full request and pragma CGI parameters.
  15. • the host CGI parameter which allows a form of multihoming.
  16. • Server Side Includes (SSI), counters and include files, file modification date and so forth.
  17. • Longer AppleEvent timeouts.

We've also added support for missing files (missing.html, missing. acgi, etc) which will be returned if the file is missing.  This allows you to have a customised response for outdated links, as well as allowing you to use CGIs to report or redirect references to moved files or to fake out an entire directory hierarchy using a single CGI.

  21. And we now support the If-Modified-Since field for improved performance with caching proxy servers.

We now include a comprehensive set of example web pages demonstrating the features of NetPresenz, including demonstrations of Server Side Includes, AppleScript, MacPerl and Frontier CGIs, Missing files and CGIs, Java applets, Powered By NetPresenz logos, animation and movies, image maps, and redirections.

  29. Making a directory in FTP now copies the file permissions of the parent directory.

  31. You can specify login directories using Standard File instead of having to type them in.

  33. We added a preference to disable decoding BinHex files on uploads and removed the preference for enabling MacBinary mode by default (since Fetch and Anarchie turn this on themselves anyway).

  35. And we added scripting support for configuring user login directories and commands for sites with large numbers of users.
